Day 41

01.02.14

It's actually dry today (the weather), in contrast to last night, which was my 40th on the road: 40 days and 40 nights.

I went to Wetherspoons this morning for a coffee and to overtly charge up my phone (there was a free wall socket and no-one was watching.) There was a charity appeal on the TV about saving Snow Leopards. Apparently there are only around 700 left in the wild and you can adopt one for £3: surely £2100 isn't going to go far once they're all adopted? (Please, get the gag.)

I overheard a conversation on an adjacent table concerning a lady's weight (she thinks she's fat; she's not, subjective though that may be.) I'm reminded of a conversation I once had with an ex-girlfriend (another one; before the ex-wife): it concerned yet another ex-girlfriend (prior to the ex I was talking to). The latter (former) ex was - shall we say - best avoided for one week every month. She was paranoid and over-sensitive, among other things. I didn't avoid her during there periods (co-dependent, see?) and that landed me with a whole load of grief. Once we were in a pub and I asked her if she'd like another drink. She responded by asking me if I was saying she was fat. When she had the painters in, it wasn't just the carpeted area that needed avoiding.

Later in the evening with the more recent ex, whom I was relating this story to, the conversation turned to architecture. In proclaiming my love for her, I said that if I were an architect, I would name my grandest erestion after her. Her response: "Are you saying I'm fat?"

Another top five springs to mind. Buildings (in no particular order):

  • Battersea Power Station
  • Lloyds of London
  • St. Pancras Station
  • 33 St. Mary Axe (The Gerkin)
  • Tower 42

Tomorrow is day 42...
